Summary

On May 16, 1956, in Los Angeles, California, a civilian reported one object. It was a ground visual sighting. The object was watched for about 20 minutes, and the observer used binoculars.

The object was delta shaped. It was red striped and flashing. It looked about the size of a pea held at arm's length. The object stayed stationary the whole time. At one point the observers believed the object was a star.

The main witness was a 27 year old engineer for the Bendix company, and six others saw it too. The sky was clear with some high clouds. The Air Force concluded on its Project 10073 record card, the official record for unidentified flying object reports, that the sighting was astronomical in nature. The record noted the observers probably saw Venus, the brightest body in the sky.
