Summary

On June 13, 1963, at night, a civilian student reported an object near Little Rock, Arkansas. The witness was about 8 miles south of the city. The case was recorded in Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.

The witness described a saucer or pea-shaped object with a dome. It glowed red, then turned white for a short time, then red again. It was seen low on the horizon to the south and west, about 20 degrees up. It moved in a jumpy, erratic way and would disappear behind clouds and reappear. It was watched for about 15 minutes before fading in the west.

The Air Force concluded the sighting was probably aircraft. KC-97 tanker and B-47 bomber aircraft were refueling in the area during the sighting, with many takeoffs and landings at Little Rock. The red glow was attributed to tanker warning lights and the white glare to landing lights used to position aircraft during night refueling.
