Summary

On July 1, 1962, a civilian witness six and one-half miles north of Jacksonville, Florida reported seeing an object shaped like a star and comparable to the planet Venus. The object was bright white at first with the magnitude of Venus, then changed to red after separation. It was almost due south of Jacksonville at 60 degree elevation, moved 450 degrees westward across the horizon, and ended up at a southwest position of Jacksonville, disappearing at a 45 degree angle of elevation. The object separated into two parts approximately 3 seconds apart, and both parts disappeared approximately 5 seconds later. Total sighting duration was 45 minutes. The witness was a civilian steel engineer. One object was observed during daylight hours at dusk. No Air Force evaluation is stated in these pages.
