Summary

On September 5, 1962, at night in Wickliffe, Ohio, a civilian witnessed an object resembling Sputnik IV that disintegrated before reaching earth. A letter dated September 25, 1962, from a Montville Township Fire Chief asked the Air Force for details about UFO sightings caused by Russian Sputnik re-entry. The Fire Chief described a cone-shaped object falling from the sky and disintegrating before reaching the ground. He reported surrounding towns witnessed the event. No physical evidence was found.
