Summary
On December 31, 1955, at 11:23 p.m., a civilian in Charleston, South Carolina reported a yellow and red flaming object that was elongated in shape and appeared high and slow. The object had no sound and seemed to have an exhaust trail. It was observed for 20 to 25 minutes while moving in various directions, including north and vertical motions before fading from view. The witness was located near the Crescent on Yeamans Road in Charleston. A doctor and his wife also witnessed the sighting. The Air Force concluded the sighting involved insufficient data for evaluation, noting that Venus was not visible at the time and suggesting the possibility of a balloon or astronomical sighting.
