Summary

On August 23, 1956, at approximately 7:00 p.m., a civilian observer in Atlanta, Georgia reported seeing a small jet-like object. The object moved straight up and down, then went out of sight and came back again. The first sighting lasted 3 to 4 minutes. The second sighting lasted 4 to 5 minutes. The observer said the object was bright and larger than a basketball. An F-84 jet aircraft from Dobbins Air Force Base was in the area at the time of the sighting. The preparing officer noted that the observer's description practically described a jet aircraft. The Air Force concluded the sighting was an aircraft.

10. BRIEF SUMMARY OF SIGHTING
Observer reported small jet like object shaped like a jet plane, moving s straight out of sight then back again. In sight first time 3-4 mins; 2nd time 4-5 mins.

11. COMMENTS
Obviously a/c. Preparing officer reports low flying a/c observed in area. Also F-84's fm Dobbin AFB known to be in area at time of sighting. Interview w/observer disclosed she was inconsistent. In view of above information and fact that observer practically describes a "jet aircraft" in her description of the object, conclude as a/c.
