Summary

On October 29, 1953, at 8:15 p.m., a civilian in Hampton, Virginia reported observing one bright white light moving across the sky. The object traveled at an estimated 1400 miles per hour on a straight path and disappeared over a cloud bank. The observation lasted four seconds. The witness was an amateur astronomer. The object appeared much faster than any jet known at the time and did not resemble a meteorite. No sound was heard. The Air Force Intelligence Officer noted the observer's familiarity with jets and astronomical phenomena and stated the sighting appeared to be neither a jet nor a meteorite, though no definitive conclusion was reached.
