Summary

On November 25, 1961, a witness near Denver, Colorado, reported a strange object in the sky. The sighting happened at 1828 Zulu time, which was night. The object was large and irregular in shape, about 16 inches across, and looked like a flattened or squashed football. A witness on the ground watched it for about 4 to 5 seconds.

The object began as a blue flash that grew very bright, like an aircraft exploding. The flash then dimmed to orange. The object trailed orange light and broke into two pieces. It flew on a path parallel to the earth and then disappeared all at once.

The Air Force record card lists this case as astronomical. The card notes that the color, duration, flight, and sudden disappearance match the observation of an exploding bolide, which is a bright meteor.
