Insufficient Data

Summary

On December 8, 1957, a pilot near the Canadian border reported a ball of light while flying at 40,000 feet. The pilot was going into a turn from west to south and leaving heavy contrails when he noticed the ball of light with a black streak. The sighting was logged at about 9:50 p.m. local time. The Air Force recorded the case under Project 10073, its official record for unidentified flying object reports. The card notes that plots of the sighting showed the sun was to the pilot's front and right at almost the same level, suggesting the object was related to the sun and the aircraft's own contrails.
