Project Blue Book Case File
[ILLEGIBLE], [ILLEGIBLE]Date unknown
Summary
Two high school students in Bell Buckle, Tennessee witnessed what the Air Force would later describe as a likely astronomical event, possibly a meteor, on an undated afternoon. The object they saw had a fuzzy outline, appeared metallic, shaped like a football, and traveled at high speed. The incident was initially reported in a letter dated October 1, 1958, but the specific date of the sighting itself remains unclear from these records.
Because the initial report was sparse, the Air Force asked the two young observers to complete detailed questionnaires. The documents show they were students at Webb School in Bell Buckle, looking outdoors when they noticed the object. Their descriptions matched those on the initial report card, and the Air Force evaluated the case as unknown before ultimately concluding it was probably astronomical in nature, likely a meteor.
The file also contains a longer, unrelated report from Warren County, New Jersey, in which a civilian witness provided an extremely detailed account of a large, disc-shaped object he observed on October 2, 1958, describing it as "like a pickle with a flat bottom," with flashing characteristics and complicated aerial maneuvers. This second sighting remains marked unidentified in the case records.
