Summary

On July 4, 1962, a UFO was sighted at sea near coordinates 11 degrees 3 minutes North, 174 degrees 52 minutes West. The object was round with a solid glow and no tail, bluish white in color and as bright as the first magnitude star. It was first noticed due to movement relative to the stars at 45 degrees bearing 300 degrees, then moved to 05 degrees bearing 030 degrees, on a northeast course. The object disappeared behind low clouds on the horizon. It remained in view for twelve minutes. The sighting was made visually with no optical aids at 4:09 a.m. The object was sighted by personnel aboard USS Forster, confirmed by the commanding officer and bridge watch. Satellites were sighted at the same time. No aircraft were on radar at the time of the sighting. The Air Force evaluation is listed as unknown.
