· 48 pages
Summary
MKUltra Subproject 148 funded a consultant in pharmacology and toxicology from 1963 to 1964. The surviving file shows an initial authorization of $5,000.00 dated 24 October 1963 for one year of work. Additional payments totaling $500.00 each were made in November 1963, June 1964, and August 1964. A July 1964 memo describes research on synthetic dimethyl heptyl analogues and the active ingredient of marijuana, comparing effects with chlorpromazine and studying behavioral arousal in cat preparations and brain-stem reticular formation to understand how marijuana causes CNS depression. The file contains financial ledgers, receipts, and invoices with extensive redactions of personal and institutional names.
