Summary
Subproject 51-B funded chemical and pharmacological research at an academic institution from 1958 to 1959. The CIA authorized $1,200 in initial funds in June 1958, with an additional $1,200 authorized in May 1958, bringing the total to $24,000 for fiscal year 1959. The research focused on chemical investigations of pharmacologically active plant and fungal compounds, synthesis of new heterocyclic compounds, and miscellaneous pharmaceutical synthesis. A June 30, 1958 proposal requested a one-year budget of $13,250 to support a chief investigator, one post-doctoral fellow at $4,200, one pre-doctoral fellow at $1,800, supplies and equipment at $2,000, analytical and secretarial services at $1,000, and travel at $500. Payment documentation shows checks drawn on an unnamed bank. One document references receipt of 1,2-dimethylheptyl rocorcinol for synthesis work.
