Insufficient Data

Summary

On October 5, 1961, a civilian in Waynesville, North Carolina, reported an object at about 9:50 p.m. local time. The witness watched the object through a telescope. It was silver and larger than an aircraft, and it appeared to be spinning. The witness reported three lights like neon. The object moved from south to north and disappeared to the north. The witness could not give the size, distance, or how long the object was in view. A military air tanker was reported in the area at the time. The local intelligence officer noted a probable weather balloon. The Air Force listed the case as insufficient data, saying no valid conclusion could be made.
