Summary

On February 15, 1961, two military weather observers near Madrid, Spain, reported a bright object. The observers were assigned to a weather unit at Torrejon Air Base. The object was seen for about two to three seconds while descending. The report was submitted on February 24.

The object was first sighted about 42 to 45 degrees above the horizon, to the east or east southeast. It was moving down very fast and was exceptionally bright and large, at first suggesting an aircraft. It exploded when it was about 18 to 23 degrees above the eastern horizon, brightly back lighting clouds over ridges about 15 miles east of Madrid. One observer noted a distinct particle separation when the object exploded.

The Air Force card states that all characteristics of a meteor are present, even in this limited information.
