Summary

On November 10, 1956, two civilian guards on duty at a naval air station saw one object over South Weymouth, Massachusetts. They were among about eight observers, all on military duty. The object was watched for nearly three hours, from about 3:40 a.m. to 6:50 a.m. local time.

The report described an acorn or funnel shaped object. It was white at the base, red on the sides, and had a green glow. It was the size of a grapefruit at arm's length. It was first seen at 15 degrees elevation and rose to about 70 degrees. It drifted from east to south. It was seen with the eyes and through binoculars.

The Air Force record card lists the cause as the planet Venus. A nearby radar site was alerted, and personnel were ordered to track the object and report any unusual actions. Project 10073 was the Air Force's official record system for reports of unidentified flying objects.
