ST. PAUL, MINN., July 1952 - Incident Number: [ILLEGIBLE]July 1952
Summary
In July 1952, a civilian man in St. Paul, Minnesota reported seeing two bright objects in the night sky through his telescope. The objects appeared orange-white in color and resembled airplane landing lights, but no aircraft was visible. The first object appeared in the south around 9:30 p.m. (2130 hours), moved nearly overhead, and curved westward at roughly 30 degrees per second. It was visible for about 15 to 20 seconds. A second object followed about 30 minutes later, appearing from the southeast to southwest and remaining in view for approximately 20 seconds. Both objects were silent, though the observer noted a faint distant sound during the second sighting, possibly resembling a jet engine or diesel locomotive.
The observer suggested that some radar targets detected by the U.S. Air Force on the same night might have been meteors from the Delta Aquarid and Perseid meteor showers occurring at that time in late July and early August. The Air Force file on this case appears incomplete in the OCR'd text, and the final evaluation of the sighting is not clearly legible in the available documentation.
The full case file is reproduced below as held by the National Archives, comprising 50 pages.
