Summary

In May 1961, a young witness in Silver Grove, Kentucky reported seeing two bright, round objects in the night sky. The sighting lasted about ten minutes. The objects were brighter than the brightest star visible that night. They appeared to change color, shifting from white to reddish to white again before fading out. The witness heard no sound from the objects. Their edges looked fuzzy or blurred rather than sharply defined.

The two objects moved in a distinctive pattern. They traveled north to south, then west, then north again. One object followed the other throughout the sighting, staying about two miles apart. The first object disappeared partway through the sighting, then reappeared. The second object did the same at roughly the same point. The witness estimated their speed was comparable to that of a four-engine aircraft.

The Air Force investigator noted in the case file that this was the witness's second report of similar sightings in about two weeks, with both occurring under nearly identical circumstances on clear nights. The investigator expressed skepticism about several details, particularly how the young witness determined the distance between the two objects. The file suggests the witness may have confused the direction of movement, reporting objects moving north-south when they might actually have been moving south-north. Without corroborating evidence or additional witnesses, the investigator concluded that no valid determination could be made about what the objects actually were.

The Air Force's final evaluation listed the case as "unknown." The complete case file, comprising nine scanned pages, is reproduced below as held by the National Archives.
