Summary

On November 5, 1957, at 5:30 p.m., a civilian in Scotia, Nebraska reported seeing an object overhead that sounded like a helicopter and smelled like burning fuel. The object looked like a balloon and appeared to be descending. Witnesses said they were paralyzed for a short time upon seeing it. The object did not reach the ground and began ascending into the air again, then disappeared. The Air Force evaluated this as an unreliable report, possibly a balloon.
