Project Blue Book Case File
San Diego, CaliforniaFebruary 1955
Summary
On February 7, 1955, someone in San Diego, California reported seeing a large blinking light in the night sky. The light appeared red at first, then alternated between red and white. The object stayed relatively still for a time, then suddenly moved 3 to 4 miles very rapidly before settling into a slow, steady course. The sighting lasted approximately 45 minutes.
The Air Force received the report and investigated. Duty officers at nearby Miramar Airport scanned the sky during the time of the sighting but saw only red lights from Isla radio towers and red, green, and white lights from the airport's own beacon. In their assessment, the investigators concluded the sighting was probably caused by airfield lights. The file OCR is heavily degraded in places, making some details difficult to extract with full confidence.
The Air Force officially classified this case as unidentified. The full case file is reproduced below as held by the National Archives, comprising 10 pages of microfilm.
