Pakistan, Karachi, April 1961April 1961
Summary
On April 22, 1961, two Air Force officers reported an object over Karachi, Pakistan, around 10:30 p.m. (GMT). The report was forwarded as part of a project that tracked space objects. The observers were looking north toward the Big Dipper.
The witnesses described three distinct lights of a pinkish, gaseous color, slightly less bright than a star. They were slightly elongated, like a cigar shape, and traveled in close formation. The lights moved in a straight line across the lower part of the Big Dipper handle toward the North Star, about 10 degrees down from straight overhead. The objects appeared to be at tremendous altitude and tremendous speed, in the fringe of the atmosphere. The sighting lasted only about 8 to 10 seconds. The lights showed a definite jerkiness that suggested atmospheric distortion.
The report suggested this might be the sighting of a space rocket body and asked for the expected orbit time over Pakistan if the body had not yet decayed.
