Summary

On June 8, 1955, a civilian near Paine Air Force Base, Washington saw a single object at night. The object moved on an erratic course and was still being watched when the report was made. The sighting lasted about six minutes.

The object was round and changed color from red to green to yellow to white. It had a long exhaust. It appeared about the size of a star, very high in the sky.

The Air Force noted that a local aircraft control squadron was tracking two B-47 type aircraft in the area at the time. The weather was clear with a full moon. Officials concluded the witness possibly saw the two B-47 aircraft at high altitude. They suggested the contrails could explain the long exhaust and the jets the change in color.
