Project Blue Book Case File
New York, New YorkSeptember 1957
Summary
On either September 24 or 25, 1957, at about 5:00 a.m. in New York, New York, a civilian saw a bright yellow ball of light. It was as large as the witness's fist. The light moved from west to the northeast across the sky, then dipped. The witness first took it for a shooting star and later wondered if it had been a satellite. The report came to the Air Force through letters, including one to a defense office. The Air Force record card for Project 10073, its official record for unidentified flying object reports, lists the conclusion as astronomical, naming a meteor.
