On October 20, 1950, about 6:15 p.m., a civilian near New Haven, Connecticut, reported a bright object. The report is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
The witness described a starlike object about 10 times brighter than the planet Venus. It gave a steady, non blinking light with a steady orange glow. No sound, trail, or exhaust was seen. The estimated altitude was 20,000 feet or higher. The object flew west toward New York City at an estimated 400 to 700 miles per hour and was in sight for about 20 seconds.
