PENDLETON OREGON, July 1952 - Incident Number: [ILLEGIBLE]July 1952
Summary
On July 15, 1952, a state trooper in Pendleton, Oregon reported seeing a silver, spherical object traveling northwest at an estimated altitude of 4,000 feet and moving at high speed. The sighting was brief but was also witnessed by five carloads of civilians near Reith Ridge, about five miles west of Pendleton on Highway 30.
The object was observed for approximately five minutes in clear weather with unlimited visibility. Witnesses described it as silver colored and roughly 35 to 100 feet in diameter. The object was seen maneuvering, dipping in flight and moving eastbound over Reith Ridge before heading due north at the end of the sighting. One witness was identified as a former policeman named Mr. Inner Christensen. The observation ended at 1521 hours (3:21 p.m.) on July 15.
At the time of the sighting, a strike force of six B-36 heavy bombers was in the area, heading north over Pendleton at 1521 hours. However, the report noted no radar contacts in the area involved, and no other air traffic was reported except for the B-36 formation. The Air Force investigation, conducted by Major Neil A. Vosburgh of the 25th Air Division, forwarded the report to the Air Technical Intelligence Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The file does not state a final conclusion about the object's identity.
