Summary

On September 20, 1960, a military pilot near Louisville, Kentucky, reported objects in the sky at about 2150 (9:50 p.m.). While flying a C-47 at 9,000 feet about 25 miles west of Louisville, the pilot saw a bright object cross ahead, moving from southeast to northwest at high speed and high altitude. Two smaller objects then appeared, trailing parallel behind and to each side of the first. The pilot and co-pilot watched for about 12 minutes. The objects varied in brightness from bright to dim, with the largest being brightest. The pilot checked with Indianapolis Center, which reported no known aircraft nearby. The Air Force listed the case as a probable aircraft refueling operation.
