Summary

On September 7, 1954, in Las Vegas, Nevada, a military observer reported a sighting lasting less than one minute. The object had a rounded nose and came to a point at the tail. It was black and changed to bright orange. No features or trail were visible, and an orange flame appeared at the rear. The object was about one-half the length of a fighter jet. The initial observation occurred at 60 degrees elevation and 270 degrees azimuth. The object disappeared at 65 degrees elevation and 270 degrees azimuth. Thunderstorms and clouds covered the entire area. The Air Force evaluation concluded the sighting was a possible meteor.
