Project Blue Book Case File
LAS VEGAS NEV, July 1952 - Incident Number: [ILLEGIBLE]July 1952
Summary
On the morning of July 15, 1952, several residents of Las Vegas, Nevada witnessed two unidentified flying objects moving rapidly across the sky. The first sighting occurred around 8:45 a.m. (or 1630 in military time) when a man eating breakfast with his family spotted two objects moving westward at very high speed. He described them as discrete, house-shaped objects stacked one above the other, with coloring similar to dense clouds underneath and a silvery white top like a cloud. The objects moved in a smooth glide with no visible tails, lights, sound, or other distinguishing features. The witness estimated the entire sighting lasted about 30 seconds before the objects became obscured by trees.
Several other family members and employees witnessed at least portions of the sighting. A second witness described two round, silver or white objects moving very fast in a smooth glide, watching for about one minute before they disappeared. A third witness observed the objects sliding into view and noted they moved at a steady, even speed on a downward angle, resembling a long glide. That witness also estimated the total observation time at about 30 seconds. The objects appeared smaller than typical aircraft and did not behave like any plane the witnesses had seen before. All observers noted clear skies, excellent visibility, and calm winds at the time.
The reporting officer noted that Las Vegas residents were generally familiar with jet aircraft from the nearby Nellis Air Force Base training program. However, he observed that at the observed speed (faster than jet aircraft), objects would cover only a few miles in one minute, making identification difficult. Nellis reported several jet flights on local training missions were in the air at the time of the sighting, and Las Vegas air traffic control reported no aircraft under their control in the area. No physical evidence was recovered. The file notes weather conditions were clear with 35-mile visibility, calm winds, and temperatures around 90 degrees Fahrenheit at ground level. The USAF evaluation of this case is not clearly stated in the available file pages.
