Summary

On August 11, 1958, near Erie, Pennsylvania, a civilian witness observed a red and white object about the size of a twelve-inch dinner plate for fifteen minutes during twilight hours. The object appeared stationary at first but kept changing position and eventually faded toward the east. A Strategic Air Command aircraft was refueling in the area at the time. An intelligence officer noted the sighting was more likely related to refueling operations at high altitude with cloud cover present. The Air Force evaluated the case as unidentified.
