Project Blue Book Case File
Crestview, FloridaMarch 1963
Summary
On March 17, 1963, an Air Force airman over Crestview, Florida, reported two grey, wing shaped objects in the night sky. They were seen at about 50 degrees above the horizon and looked similar to a normal two aircraft formation. They had no trail, tail, or exhaust, and made no sound. The sighting lasted about 2 to 3 seconds.
The objects flew in a straight course from east to west with no maneuvers, then blended into the darkness of the sky. They appeared lighter in color than the dark background and were similar in shape to an F-102, though not necessarily in size. The witness was rated as a reliable source. The night was clear with stars visible.
The Air Force, in its Project 10073 record, noted the very short duration. It concluded two birds at low altitude could cross about 100 feet in 2 to 3 seconds, near the limit of visibility for dark objects, and evaluated the case as a possible sighting of two birds.
