Summary

On May 9, 1958, a pilot on a PAL flight near Bohol Island in the Philippine Islands reported seeing an object falling from the sky at approximately 3:52 a.m. The object was spinning and leaving a trail of smoke. The pilot observed it for about 90 seconds as it fell in a general direction over Bohol Island. The object reflected sunlight from what appeared to be a metallic surface. The pilot could not identify it as an aircraft even after it fell for about 52 seconds and entered a thick cloud layer, after which he lost sight of it. The pilot estimated the object's altitude at approximately 16,000 feet or less when first observed and notified the Civil Aeronautics Administration. The Air Force evaluation was listed as unidentified.
