Summary

On March 12, 1961, an object was reported over Australia about 8 p.m. local time. The object was bright white at first, then turned a brighter green, and burned out in a line of orange sparks. It traveled at high speed in a low arc at about 25 degrees. There was one object.

On Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports, the comments said the duration was not reported, but the description was characteristic of a large meteor.
