Summary

On the evening of October 25, 1961, in Akron, Ohio, multiple witnesses saw a formation of bright objects in the night sky. The objects appeared as bluish-white lights resembling bright stars. They moved across the sky in a Z or X formation, traveling from west to east.

Several witnesses observed the sighting and submitted detailed questionnaires to the U.S. Air Force. The objects remained visible for several minutes. Witnesses described them as bright point sources of light, though the OCR text makes some details difficult to read with complete certainty. The formation maintained its pattern as it crossed the sky.

The Air Force investigation concluded that the sighting most likely resulted from high-flying jet aircraft displaying formation lights. The case file states that the objects "have all characteristics ascribed to high flying jet a/c displaying formation lights." The Air Force found no evidence in the report to suggest the objects were anything other than conventional military aircraft.

The official evaluation, however, marked the case as unidentified. This distinction reflected the Air Force's formal classification system, even though the investigators believed a conventional explanation was most probable.
