Summary

On July 4, 1963, at 4:13 a.m., a military observer aboard a ship at coordinates 25.02 North, 127.15 East (Far East) reported an object bearing 320 degrees at 10 degrees elevation that moved to position overheard at 4:13 a.m. and disappeared suddenly at 04/1312Z bearing 108 degrees 54 degrees altitude. The object had the appearance of a last magnitude star. The sighting lasted 11 minutes. One object was observed. The course was southeast. Comments indicate an ECHO crossed the equator at 1234 heading northeast at 7.98 West 26 minutes, which would reach peak orbit by sunrise bringing the satellite into position to be observed by the witness at 127.15E. The case was evaluated as an ECHO sighting.
