Summary
On March 24, 1963, in Dayton, Ohio, a military observer reported sighting an object at 8:30 p.m. The object was sighted at 2:30 p.m. and reported to the Department of Defense by phone at 9 p.m. The observer watched through a window as the object crossed a 30-degree arc and went beyond the edge of a house. The observer saw it for 1 to 2 minutes. The observer believed he could have sighted the object for 15 minutes at the same rate of speed. Initial information indicated the object was moving from west to east at a high rate of speed. Contact with a witness revealed the object could have been ECHO 1, which passed south of Dayton at 2027 hours moving northeast at an elevation of 78 degrees. The object was estimated by the witness to be at 75 to 80 degree elevation. The Air Force concluded the sighting was ECHO 1.
