Summary

On September 7, 1958, at night, a civilian near Larson Air Force Base in Washington, about 2 miles south, reported seeing an object with the shape of an upside-down dipper. The object was approximately 3 feet square with a tail about 1.5 feet long. Five lights outlined the object. The witness heard a whirring or buzzing sound. The sighting lasted less than one minute. The object moved from north to south and then instantaneously to the south. The Air Force concluded the UFO was probably a light civilian aircraft, but could not confirm the presence of such aircraft in the vicinity. The element of doubt about aircraft presence was the only justification for forwarding the report.
