Summary

On October 28, 1955, at about 0545Z, a civilian saw three objects over Zonguldak, Turkey. The total sighting lasted about 45 seconds, about 15 seconds for each object.

The witness described objects that were rectangular with tapered ends. They looked like a sail or a cloud with the sun shining on them, even though there was a solid overcast. Three objects were seen one after another, not in formation. They left no trail or exhaust and made no sound. The first object appeared about 15 to 20 degrees below the horizon, rose slowly, and disappeared to the north. The second and third objects traveled in an arc and disappeared to the northeast.

The Air Force noted that an overcast was present and the objects were seen near the horizon. Officers thought it very probable the sighting could be explained by an inversion or refraction effect in the atmosphere.
