Summary
On July 22, 1957, civilians near Wild Rice, North Dakota reported observing a star-like object that was blue to firey brown in color. The object appeared longer than its width and had a tail the size of the object. The sighting lasted approximately two hours. One object was reported. The Air Force concluded the sighting was an astronomical object. The case notes indicate that when small objects like stars are observed through binoculars, they appear to move or be distorted. The duration and movement of the object, without positional information, led to evaluation on an astronomical basis.
