Project Blue Book Case File
Steelton, Penn, June 1955June 1955
Summary
On June 1, 1955, a civilian Ground Observer Corps member in Steelton, Pennsylvania saw a single object in daylight. The observer was always alert for anything flying over the post. The sighting lasted about ten to twelve minutes.
The object was cigar or egg shaped and white. It made no sound. It flew a level path and then faded out of sight. Witnesses noted a naval depot was nearby at Harrisburg, and that some operation there may have been responsible.
The Air Force record lists the case as possibly a balloon. Officials cited the time of the sighting, the changing shape, and the chance the object was a balloon. Because further investigation was unlikely to add useful data, none was authorized.
