Summary

On July 8, 1955, a civilian reported one object for about twenty minutes. The sighting was seen from the ground. The witnesses used binoculars.

The object was round with jagged outer edges and appeared red, orange, yellow, and blue, showing as a bright light. A pilot from a local fighter squadron made repeated passes over the location. He said he appeared to fly through the object but noticed nothing.

The Air Force comments weigh several explanations. The card notes that at the time of the sighting the planet Saturn was about 30 degrees above the horizon in the southwest, near the area of the sighting. The report suggests the observers possibly saw Saturn through haze and clouds, with binoculars accounting for the colors and size.
