Summary

On a night in June 1962, a resident of Pueblo, Colorado spotted an object in the sky that dimmed compared to the stars around it. The object appeared as a light with a white vapor trail. It approached from the south, turned northward, and then continued moving. The witness noted that the object seemed smaller than common aircraft and did not change altitude during the sighting. The entire observation lasted about three minutes.

The witness reported the sighting to authorities and filled out a detailed Air Force questionnaire. In the comments section, Air Force investigators noted that the witness insisted the object was not an aircraft. The witness was described as a firm believer in flying saucers. The investigators suggested that the object's flight characteristics, speed, and the presence of a contrail (a visible trail left by an aircraft) were consistent with a conventional aircraft moving at normal speeds.

Despite the witness's conviction that the object was something unusual, the Air Force's analysis leaned toward a conventional explanation. The file indicates the object's behavior, appearance, and the vapor trail it left behind matched what would be expected from an airplane with a contrail under the right atmospheric conditions.
