Summary

On August 12, 1959, at night, an observer near Ocean Beach reported an object in the sky. The sighting was reported through the Air Force's unidentified flying object record system.

The witness described an object that looked like a saucer from the side, about the size of a nickel held at arm's length. It was red in color and turned golden at times, with a slight trail at the end. The object appeared to move back and forth.

The record card noted there was a high thin layer of cirrus clouds and a haze layer present. It concluded a combination of the two probably reflected the light.
