Summary

On June 4, 1960, northwest of the Azores Islands, pilots of a military aircraft observed a projectile-shaped object traveling at a speed above mach one. The object was visible for 4 to 5 seconds during evening twilight at an altitude of 10,000 to 15,000 feet and was located approximately 2 miles away. The object moved from 1 o'clock to 4 o'clock position relative to the aircraft and then disappeared. It trailed a green-gold white flame larger than the object itself. The object appeared to be in level flight. Both the pilot and co-pilot witnessed the sighting. There was no radar contact. The Air Force conclusion listed the evaluation as unknown.
