Project Blue Book Case File
North Carolina, October 1962October 1962
Summary
In early October 1962, someone in North Carolina took two photographs along State Route 10, overlooking Socco Valley. The weather was clear and bright, with excellent visibility. The photographer used a Rexo Junior camera, a folding bellows-type camera made by Burke & James that was over 40 years old at the time of the sighting. The photos were submitted to Project Blue Book for analysis, along with a request for evaluation.
When Air Force photographic analysts examined the prints, they found transparent-like objects or spots on the images. However, the analysts determined that the most probable cause of these spots was defects in or on the camera negatives themselves, not unknown objects in the sky. The Air Force noted that a more complete analysis would have required examining the original negatives, which were not available for inspection.
The case was marked as "Insufficient Data for Evaluation" in the official conclusion. The photographs were returned to the submitter. The full case file is reproduced below as held by the National Archives, spanning 9 pages.
