Project Blue Book Case File
North Arlington, VirginiaOctober 1954
Summary
On the night of October 4, 1954, a civilian reported objects over North Arlington, Virginia. The witness was a housewife, and the sighting was confirmed by another person. It lasted about 10 minutes, with objects seen one at a time at three different moments.
Each object was round and the size of a pea held at arm's length, with a yellowish white color. They moved unusually fast across the sky. They were first seen at about 45 degrees elevation in the southeast and moved toward the south before disappearing near a cloud bank.
The Air Force record listed the conclusion as aircraft. The duty officer noted that many jets were flying at varied altitudes near Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland during the sighting. He believed the observer probably saw afterburner flames or a steady white light under a jet during its descent. The case was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
