Summary

On September 10, 1952, near Hyattsville, Maryland, an oval-shaped object with a luminous red and blue light was observed northeast of Langley Park. The object was estimated seven to eight miles away at an elevation of 30 degrees above the horizon. It remained in the same general area for 35 minutes, moving up and down and sideways at irregular intervals. Observers occasionally saw showers of sparks or pale reddish particles. The sighting was reported at 9:30 p.m. and the object remained visible at 10:23 p.m. Two observers using binoculars of unknown power watched the event. Andrews Air Force Base and Washington National Airport both reported no radar contact. An AT-6 pilot checked the area but saw no object, reporting clear weather at his altitude of 6,000 feet with a thin haze layer below.
