Summary

On a morning in March 1955, an elderly woman in New York City looked out her window and saw something strange in the sky. She described a white, oval-shaped object floating in the air. Unlike other objects reported in the skies, this one did not seem to move in any particular direction or change its appearance. The woman watched it for approximately five minutes until it disappeared from view.

The sighting was reported to authorities, and a radar station in the area reported high-intensity activity at the time the object was observed. The 26th Air Defense Artillery unit, which also noted the phenomenon, concluded that the sighting was likely caused by a cloud formation. No final determination was recorded in the case file regarding what the object actually was, though the file indicates the most probable explanation was a balloon.

The case file for this sighting is reproduced below as held by the National Archives across 26 pages of microfilm T1206, Roll 22.
