Summary

On November 1, 1957, a civilian in New Orleans, Louisiana reported seeing one blimp-shaped object with a shiny surface. The object moved to the northwest and was visible for 1 to 1.5 minutes. The sighting occurred at 12:07 GMT (early morning local time). The object had no appendages, no contrail, no tail, and produced no noise. It moved at a speed similar to a cloud. The object appeared to glow from underneath and showed sun reflection on top. The observer was positioned 4.5 miles east of Moisant Airport at uncertain altitude. Weather conditions included 2,500 feet scattered clouds, visibility 1.5 miles, wind variable at 4 knots, temperature 77 degrees Fahrenheit, and dew point 66 degrees. Several airlines reported approaches during that time, but no definite estimate of distance could be made. The Air Force concluded the sighting was probably caused by an aircraft.
