Summary

On September 13, 1952, observers from Dauphin and adjacent counties near Middletown, Pennsylvania sighted an object in the sky. The object was described as bluish white turning to yellow and traveling very fast from southeast to northwest. It was approximately 25 inches in diameter near the town of Lound. The object was last seen at 40-10N 76-40W appearing to go below hills west of Field across Susquehanna River. Observers reported a slight tail, which they said was due to the great rate of speed. No sound was heard. Weather was clear with 7 miles visibility. Winds were calm at 2000 feet at 250 degrees and 4000 feet at 320 degrees at 5 knots. No air traffic was in the area. All observers were on the ground and appeared reliable, with at least two being base guards. The Air Force evaluated the sighting as a possible meteor.
