Project Blue Book Case File
Kisarazu, Japan, April 1955April 1955
Summary
On the evening of April 27, 1955, multiple observers near Kisarazu, Japan, watched an unusual object move across the sky. The object appeared egg-shaped, roughly two feet in diameter and three to four feet long. It glowed blue-white, with red coloring at its rear end and what looked like red-yellow exhaust trailing behind it. To the witnesses, the object appeared to be on fire.
The sighting lasted only three to thirteen seconds, depending on which observer's account is examined. The object traveled in a straight, level path at an elevation of between thirty and forty-five degrees above the horizon. During its flight, the outer edges appeared to glow with a very bright light. The object finally disappeared behind a building. The witnesses included Tsurborka Ca Fumio, a thirty-three-year-old Japanese civilian, and a man in his early twenties working as a civilian guard. Both were stationed in the Kisarazu area.
The weather at the time featured a cold front centered east of Isawa, with surface winds from the south-southwest at ten to fifteen knots. Wind conditions aloft varied at different altitudes, ranging from eight thousand to twenty thousand feet. The Air Force evaluated the sighting as a probable meteor. The full case file is reproduced below as held by the National Archives, comprising nine pages.
